3RD GRADERS VISITED AUSTRALIA!

As part of our school project "Around the world on top of a plate", 3rd graders explored Australia. We did a little project about this fascinating country in the English lessons, and then prepared a little presentation to show everybody at school what we had learned. We made the presentation in Galician, but we also invented a story in English that you can listen to at the end of the video. We hope you like it!

OUR TRAVEL TO THE US WITH CHELSEA

Last 28th May, we had to say goodbye to our "auxiliar de conversa", Chelsea. We decided to make a little presentation with some of the things we learned about her city and country and share it with the rest of the school and with her as part of the Cultural Week activities organised from the school library. Here are both the presentation we used and the video we prepared for her.

OH NO... WE HAD TO SAY GOOD BYE TO CHELSEA

Yesterday was the last day of our "auxiliar de conversa" at our school, so, as you  can guess, it was a sad day for us. We wanted her to have good memories from her last day in Conmeniño though, so we prepared a little surprise for her.// Ayer fue el último día de nuestra auxiliar de conversación, Chelsea, en nuestro cole, por lo que, como os podéis imaginar, fue un día triste para los peques y para mí.

The previous days, the kids at school made portraits of her and all of us stamped our finger print on a T-shirt so that she could "wear" us with her wherever she goes// Antes de su último día con nosotros, todos estamparon su huella en una camiseta formando una estrella para que pueda "llevarnos" con ella allá donde quiera que vaya.

Fourth graders cooked some delicious snacks with their teacher, and shared them with all of us. And fifth graders prepared some peanut butter and jelly mini sandwiches also to share with everybody.

With everything ready, we invited all the kids at school and also Chelsea, of course, to come and listen to 4th and 5th grade school project ("Around the world on top of a plate") presentation, for which we chose the US and everything we learned with Chelsea about it as a theme. It was a big surprise for her when she walked into the library and saw all of us in there.

We made the presentation that we'll share next week (Congratulations, children, you were fantastic!) and after that we gave her our presents, the T-shirt and a postcard signed by all of us. After that we watched a little video (we'll post it soon!) we made for her and had our little American picnic, cried a little, hugged a lot, took some photos...

We will miss you, Chelsea! Have a safe trip back home! We'll keep you posted on what happens in Conmeniño and in O Grove!

They'll be travelling the USA in search of information about each state, discovering about typical flavours, the flag,, the state animal... They'll work in pairs. Each pair will work on a different state and share what they've learned about it with the rest of the class, so that we all travel together.// Van a viajar por EEUU descubriendo peculiaridades de cada estado: bandera, capital, animal, comida típica,,, Van a trabajar en parejas.

As a final product, each pair will make an interactive poster about their state, and they'll use it for their oral presentation. Here's an example of what they'll be doing.

MEET OUR INTERNATIONAL ROBOTS

In our Art lessons, 5th graders had to make a robot. They could only use boxes, reuse different kinds of paper, markers, crayons, glue and some othe recycled objects (bottle caps, jar lids, ...)

To complement this Art task, they had to give their robot a personality, the only thing they knew beforehand (even before designing their robot) was the nationality of their robot (which was given to them), so they had to find out the language spoken in that country and they could also use that information to talk about their robots'likes and dislikes. After designing their robot, they had to write a description of their creature. The first step, as always, was using this Thinking Map (in it, they write ideas, they don't need to write sentences) to organize their ideas and information:

After this, we checked their information  (spelling, accuracy...) and they wrote their little description using the proper expressions to develop the ideas from their thinking map.
After this, they had to prepare themselves to present it to the rest of thegroup.
While they presented their creatures, the rest of the class and me, wrote down their assessment following the rubric we use for our oral expression tasks (this is the best way I've found to keep them listening to their partners, since they have to assess them, they are all paying attention; and they do quite a good job, they're fair and able to notice htheir classmates strengths and weaknesses)

TEACHERS TUESDAY X-THANKSGIVING RESOURCES

Since this year we have an American conversation assistant, and related to our school project "Around the world on top of a plate", we are working on Thanksgiving, learning about its origin, the tradition itself and the food related to it.

For this, i've found tons of resources online that I've pinned on Pinterest, you can see them on the following board:

Inspired by some of the activities seen here, and related to my kids needs and knowledge, I've also prepared some printables that you can download below if you'd like to.

A set of cards to go with the story:

A printable book inspired by this one:
